Artist Spotlight: Cage The Elephant

CAGE THE ELEPHANT

Brothers Matt and Brad Shultz were hypnotized by the lure of punk music from a young age. They were so inspired by it that they began playing their own music all the way back in 2006 when they were high schoolers in Kentucky. They rounded out their brotherly duo by adding fellow students Jared Champion and Daniel Tichenor, followed by Nick Bockrath and Matthan Minster.

Although they began their ambitions in the bluegrass state of Kentucky, they made the bold leap to England in an effort to kick start their career. In London they recorded their debut self-titled album which went on to garner international attention.

Their debut album, released in 2008, catapulted them to the top of Billboard Alternative and Rock charts. It also went on to achieve Platinum certification, one heck of a feat for a debut!

Since then, Cage The Elephant has released four more studio albums. In 2011 they released Thank You, Happy Birthday which included the melodical alternative hit Shake Me Down. This album was followed by 2013’s Melophobia. This album included punkier rock songs like Spiderhead and groovy hits like Come A Little Closer, showing the range that Cage The Elephant is capable of attaining inside the punk rock genre.

After a meteoric rise following their successful early career, Cage The Elephant showed no signs of slowing down. Their next release was 2015’s GRAMMY winning album Tell Me I’m Pretty. Their latest release, 2019’s Social Cues followed the same footsteps, also being a GRAMMY winning album. According to Under the Radar, “Cage The Elephant have proven to be one of the most reliable and entertaining rock bands around.”

Although the group hasn’t released a new album in recent years, they are known globally for their incredible live shows. Since their release of Social Cues, the band has proven a maturity and ability to rock the stage on large venues around the world.
